Contribution Day: Eagle Labs Brighton

After WordCamp Brighton, we’re holding a Contribution Day, where we’ll spend a whole day giving back to WordPress.

Contribution Day will be on Sunday 20th August at Eagle Labs Brighton, 10am-4pm.

Eagle Labs Brighton have very kindly donated the entire venue for us to use for the day, including loads of coffee, tea and their super-fast wifi.

🌞 So we want to say a very big thank you to the team at Eagle Labs 🌞

Eagle Labs is a co-working and office space. They also have an excellent Maker Space, equipped with 3D printers, a laser cutter and lots of other cool tools.

Jon, the in-house technician, helped us make the snazzy (glowing) orange Volunteer badges you’ll notice at WordCamp.

We made these from perspex using the Eagle Labs laser cutter. Here’s a little video of the laser cutter in action:

Make WordPress teams

When you claimed your Contribution Day ticket, you’ll have indicated which area(s), also known as teams, you’re interested in contributing too.

We’re going to focus on the four areas that received the most interest from you all:

  • Accessibility
  • Core
  • Design
  • Marketing

We’ve lined up experienced contributors to lead each of these teams on the day.

You’re also welcome to come along and contribute to any of the other areas of WordPress if you prefer. You can find out more about them here on the Make WordPress website.

How to prepare for Contribution Day

It’s a very good idea to bring a laptop and/or your other devices to Contribution Day.

If you haven’t already joined the global Making WordPress Slack and the UK WP Community Slack – you may like to join these in advance.

These Slack groups are where a lot of the discussion happens among the WordPress community, and we’d love you to join in the conversation.

Here’s the link to join Making WordPress Slack: https://make.wordpress.org/chat/

And the link to join UK WP Community Slack: http://wpslack.uk/

Remember, you don’t need to have any particular experience to contribute – it’s for everyone. If you’ve never contributed before, we’re very keen to help you get started.

You’ll need to have claimed a ticket to attend Contribution Day. If you’re unsure whether you have one – get in touch and we’ll check for you.

How to find Eagle Labs

Getting there:

The closest station to Barclays Eagle Labs is Brighton Railway Station. It’s 0.5 miles from this station to the venue. That’s around 10 minutes walking or 5 minutes in a taxi.

If you plan on driving, there’s no parking on site. But there’s plenty of parking 5 minutes walk away at the London Road car park.

See you there 🌞
